About Us

All Natural, Willamette Valley Pasture Raised Beef

Our Story

Years ago after searching for suitable land for more than a year, we finally found
Western Skies, 114 acres in the foothills of the Oregon Coast range. The ranch
consists of 41 acres of lowland pasture cultivated to provide a local source of hay
ground and 73 acres of range, consisting of rare Oregon white oak woodlands
and upland prairie. Grazing cattle in these grasslands is a natural fit, appropriate
for maintaining these prairies, just as black-tailed deer and Roosevelt elk do.
Oregon has cool season grasses that only allow for spring and summer grazing.
Over the fall and winter months the cattle stay off the grasslands, near our
headquarters, with access to pasture, hay, and shelter in the barn from the
elements. Our cattle are suited for Willamette Valley climate in that they are an
Angus/Hereford cross.  Good tolerance for heat in the summer, high performance
on a forage-based diet, and providing excellent quality beef. We are happy to
provide tours of the ranch.  May is a good time to come and see the new-born
calves, and fall is a good time to see the change of the seasons (September/October).
